Course Content
Learners from across the globe aspire to study at universities and colleges in Australia. To gain admission, they must first prove their English proficiency is sufficient for their chosen course. For many, sitting an exam like the PTE offers the most efficient and straightforward path. However, the PTE test can be quite demanding, as it includes four sections with a variety of task types and question formats.
KCBT’s PTE (Pearson Test of English) Preparation Course is specifically designed to help international learners succeed in this exam. It focuses on building essential skills and practising test strategies, enabling learners to confidently work toward achieving their target PTE scores.

Classes are scheduled for 2 ½ days per week. Full-time studies require learners to attend a minimum of 20 hours of face-to-face delivery per week.

- 8:00am to 4:30pm. Monday and Tuesday
- 8:00am to 1:15pm, Wednesday
The delivery methods for this course include
- PTE course is delivered through engaging, face-to-face sessions at the KCBT campus (Perth).
- The learning environment is interactive and collaborative, combining a variety of software and resources with carefully designed activities. The learners are encouraged to actively participate in each lesson by talking and learning together with their classmates and the teacher.
Entry Requirements
Age Requirement: You must be at least 18 years old at the start of the course
English Requirement: A suitable level of English is needed for learners to understand and attempt PTE preparation tasks in this course.
Learners are required to either:
- provide evidence of existing intermediate English proficiency level (via an internationally recognised testing score) or
- achieve a satisfactory result in an English placement test conducted by KCBT
Orientation Session
Before starting classes, all learners are required to attend the mandatory Orientation Session and Placement Test. If a learner misses this session and cannot provide an approved compassionate or compelling reason, they will not be allowed to attend class that week and must attend the following week’s session, which will affect their attendance.
Course content
Each week, learners engage in various activities, explore new topics, and gain different skills while following a study schedule. With practical strategies, structured practice learners will develop the confidence to perform at their best in every part of the test.
Listening
- Learners will summarise audio, answer multiple-choice questions, fill in blanks, and write sentences from dictation. It is important to listen carefully, take clear notes, and focus on key information. Strategies and guidance are provided to help you improve accuracy and confidence.
Reading
- Learners will answer multiple-choice questions, rearrange paragraphs, and complete fill-in-the-blank tasks. With regular practice and clear strategies, you will learn how to read efficiently, manage your time, and improve accuracy across different question types.
Speaking
- Learners will read texts aloud, repeat sentences, describe images, and summarise lectures. It is important to speak naturally, follow the flow of punctuation, and focus on key details. Templates and tips are provided to help you structure your answers and improve your performance.
Writing
- Learners will complete two main tasks: writing a onesentence summary of a short text and composing a structured essay. With the help of templates and our guidance, you will build the skills and confidence needed to write clearly and with purpose.
Assessment
The course uses a combination of formative and summative assessments to support learner progress and measure overall English proficiency. Formative assessments are conducted fortnightly through authentic mock tests from our KCBT platform, providing learners a reliable measure of their growth. Meanwhile, summative assessment is conducted at the end of the course.
Certification
All learners who study at KCBT receive a certificate upon completion of their course, outlining the course they studied, its duration, and the level of English they achieved.
Study Pathway and Career Opportunities
Learners enrolling in this course aim to achieve a target score on an internationally recognised English language proficiency certificate. This is often required as proof of their English level for migration or to enter and complete studies at an Australian institution.
